Meet Kitty

“Kitty”

This is Kitty. Her real name is McKenna and she has quite a story of her own.

I have always been very loving towards animals, especially cats. When I was eleven my mom and I found kittens on the side of the road. Luckily she let my brother and I raise them. I raised one of them as my own and she was the best cat a kid could ever ask for. Her name was Meow. She’s no longer with us – but I know she’d be happy that I got another kitty now.

After graduating college I knew I wanted another cat. Eventually after some persuasion My husband and I adopted Kitty when we lived in Lincoln, Neb. She came from and old couple who the father recently passed away and then shortly after the mother passed away – leaving Kitty all alone. Unfortunately, the late couples children could not take care of her, so they put up an ad on Craigslist. That’s where I come in.

I was on Craigslist looking at the pets section and I saw her post. It did say on the post, she would be perfect for an older couple, but I still  pressed on. We went to visit her and she was at first a little scared, but eventually she came around and let us pet her.  After talking talking with the couple’s children they started pouring their hearts (and eyes – there were tears) out to us about how their parents loved the cat. They told us how she’s called “Kitty” because once their father’s Alzheimer decease became more advanced, he could only remember “Kitty.” The told us how the old couple adopted her from a shelter in Omaha as a kitten, and before that she was living on the streets. They told us she wasn’t vocal – she most definitely is and they told us that she was a good cat, and she is.

It took Kitty a while to come around. The first night we brought her to our apartment she went under the bed and meowed all night. I almost called the people we got her from to see if they would take her back. She did the same thing the next night, but the night following that she was better.

We learned quickly that she has quite the attitude. That we refer to as “torti-tude,” since she’s a tortoise-shell cat. She doesn’t like to be picked up or handled with both hands, she’s scared of people walking next to her, doesn’t like wood floors and meows… a lot. At first she wouldn’t really come up to us at all. She would stand a few feet away with her back to you.

Now, she still does that a little bit, but she sits on my lap from time to time and she sleeps next to me every night.  She loves just hanging out – and gets really lonely when I am gone.

She’s definitely annoying at times – but I wouldn’t trade her for the world. She’s a pretty big part of my life – that’s why I’m going to start writing/adding content to a cat blog! Every day adventures with Kitty! So stay posted! 🙂

Thanks for reading!
